      "Jack" Chestnut Buried Sunday

      Funeral services for Eimale W. (Jack) Chestnut, age 46 years were held at the Queen Funeral Home at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, with the Rev. Robert Hawkins officiating.

      Music was provided by Mrs. Sidney Sorrells, Mrs. Charles Harding, and Mrs. Robert Sherfick, with Mrs. Audrene Crim, Jr. as the accompanist.

      Pallbearers were members of the Odon V. F. W. and were Ed Ferguson, Harry Sears, Russell Franklin, Doyle Wilson, Bill Hall, and Leland Cannady.

      Military rites were accorded at the grave by members of the Shoals American Legion Post No. 61. Color Bearers and Color Guards were Samuel Bough, Ed Henry, Ted Bauer, and Woodrow Wininger. Sgt-At-Arms was Wilson Gerkin and James Morris, Sr. served as Chaplain. Vincent Dwyer and Clyde Hawkins folded the flag.

      The firing squad was composed of Roy Salmon, Carl Vincent, Jr. Charles Kidwell, Robert Falls, Eddie Jones, Charles Hawkins, Carroll Abel, and James Morris, Jr. Buglers were Tucker Queen and Terry Hawkins.

      Honorary pallbearers were Lee Sims, Elmer Bauer, J. E. Yarnell, Gene Boyd, Norbert Warner, and William Keller, of Shoals American Legion Post, Ed Pendley, Monon Grow, Wellington Cannon, Howard Trambaugh, and Robert Stoll, all of Loogootee Legion Post.

      Burial was made in Spring Hill Cemetery.

      Mr. Chestnut died suddnely at his home, in Lost River Township at 10 p.m. Thursday, after an illness of only a few minutes. He was born in Knox County on March 21, 1916, the son of Wayne and Flossie (Aishe) Chestnut, both of whom survive. On October 15, 1949, he marrie Elizabeth Jane (Hutton) Sherfick, who also survives.

      He also leaves three step-children, Mrs. Lucille Peay, of Evansville; James E. and William Sherfick, both of Shoals.

      Brothers and sisters are James L. Chestnut, of St. Louis, Mo; Floyd W. and Julius Chestnut, Mrs. Alden Sims, Mrs. Frank Callahan, and Mrs. Jack McCrary, all of Odon.

      He was a Veteran of World War II, a member of the Odon Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Loogootee American Legion Post. He was an employee of the Crane Naval Depot.
