George Wade was County Commissioner of Martin County, Indiana in 1952 for Center and Mitcheltree Townships. He was commissioner in 1944-45, 45-47, 50-51, and 51-52.
He had melanoma in a mole on his face, and the cancer spread to his lungs. He could not breathe on Sunday so did not attend church. He died upon arriving to the hospital while still in the elevator.

George W. Wade Funeral Held Last Sunday
Funeral services for George Washington Wade, age 79 years, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, at the Shoals Church of Christ, with Brother Arvil Weilbaker conducting the rites.
Music was provided by Mrs. Charles Boonshot, Mrs. Audrene Crim, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Russell Edwards and John Alexander.
Pallbearers were Carl Parish, Charles Parish, Gordon Wade, Thomas George, William Strange, and William Wade. Brial was made in Spring Hill Cemetery, with the Queen Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Wade died at 12:10 a.m.Friday, January 3, at the Daviess County Hospital. He was born in Orange County on December 2, 1889, the son of George Washington Wade and Celia R. (Smith) Wade. On April 25, 1921, he married Margaret Freeman, who survives.
Mr. Wade was serving his third term as a member of the Martin County Council. He had served as County Commissioner of Martin County from 1944 to 1946 and from 1949 to 1951. He was an ardent Democrat, a veteran of World War I and a member of the Shoals Church of Christ.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sons and three daughters. They are Francis M. and Virgil L. Wade, both of Loogootee; Wayne F. Wade, Mrs. Delorma Atkison, Mrs. Mary Mae Sherfick, George A. Wade, and John W. Wade, all of Shoals, and Mrs. Joan Hyslop, of Terre Haute. He also leaves a brother, Ben Wade, of Burns City, and twenty-four grandchildren.

George Washington Wade, 79, of Shoals, a third term member of the Martin County Council died Firday, January 3, 15 12:10 o'clock at the Daviess County Hospital.
Mr. Wade had also served as a Commissioner of Martin County from 1945 until 1951. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Shoals and was a veteran of World War I.
Funeral services for Mr. Wade were held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 5, at the Shoals Church of Christ with Brother Arvil Weilbaker officiating burial in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Wade was born December 2, 1889, in Orange County, the son of George Washington and Celia Wade. He was married to Margaret Freeman on April 25, 1921, and she survives.
Also surviving are five sons, Francis and Virgil, both of Loogootee; Wayne, George, and John, all of Shoals; three daughters, Mrs. Delorma Atkinson and Mrs. Mary Mae Sherfick, both of Shoals, and Mrs. Joan Hyslop, of Terre Haute, Indiana, and a brother, Ben Wade, of Burns City, and 24 grandchildren.
