Richard Williams first settled in Orange County, North Carolina prior to 1776, as he served in the 1st Southern Battalion of Milita from North Carolina. He was a Private under the Command of Colonel Ambrose Ramsey. (Source: North
Carolina Army Accounts, Book 6, Page 14).
His father and mother are not known, nor are the dates of his marriages. It is thought that he had two marriages and that Henry could be the child of the first wife. Nothing in concrete on this yet.
Early tax lists confirm that Richard, Henry, Vinson and John were living in Ashe County, North Carolina in 1815.
The family came to Indiana about 1816 and a note by one researcher notes that he brought his wife, Elizabeth, and four sons, John, Henry, Vinson & Richard with him.
Richard is listed as County Commissioner for Lawrence County, Indiana for the year 1819.
Richard is listed in the Lawrence County, Spice Valley Township, Indiana Census of 1860, Page 885.
He is buried at Breckenridge Cemetery in Bedford, Indiana.
