Thomas Lee Sherfick Drowns in White River
This is the front page of the Shoals News on June 25, 1954 covering the tragic drowning of Tom and Bettie's son, Tommy Lee. He drowned in the White River even though he was a former Marine and excellent swimmer. It is believed he was caught in a whirlpool.

Thomas L. Sherfick Drowns In Hindostan Tragedy, Sunday on Fathers Day
Hindostan Fall, a scene of many tragic drownings, claimed another victim Sunday evening, June 20, when Thomas L. Sherfick, age 27 years, drowned in deep water, below the flat rock. . . .
(Note: The article incorrectly places Ed Sherfick in the US Army. He was in the US Air Force, stationed in Japan. The Red Cross did not tell the military or Ed that his brother was dead so that the military would let him come home. Ed did not find out until after his plane flight from Japan to California. He only had one dime on him, and he used it to call his mother collect. Another man came across the ocean with him, and he used the same dime to call his parents. Ed Sherfick took a train from California and did not reach home until the day after his brother's funeral.)

These are pictures from a Sherfick Reunion held at the home of Tom and Bettie Sherfick. In the same album were pictures from various families or friends. I don't know who these people are. If anyone can identify them, please let me know. The first few pictures are of Tom, Bettie, Tom's mother and sisters, and Tom's sisters' families.

Tom Sherfick (left) at a Trade Show in Louisville, Kentucky. Beside him is his wife Jessie Sherfick, and to the right of the 2nd jukebox is Thomas' son, Tom Sherfick and his wife Barbara, then Thomas' daughter Lucille and her husband Bill Mullis. Note the unusual Band Box machine mounted high on the wall. Behind the curved glass was a mechanical orchestra that would play along with your juke box selection.
