Name James Edward "Ed" SHERFICK Nickname Ed Born 3 Feb 1930 New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana, USA Gender Male Died 3 Oct 2012 Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana, USA Buried Spring Hill Cemetery, Shoals, Martin County, Indiana, USA Notes - Ed and Billy Sherfick started working in their father's factory in 1945. Brother Tom never worked at the factory, but worked at the Sherfick Music Company instead as a salesman. He traveled to various places to try to place jukeboxes on their locations. He took trucks of jukeboxes.
Ed learned to be an electrician while in high school. When he was 16 years old, he wired the home of his grandmother, Becky Ann Sherfick in West Shoals, Indiana. He ended up rewiring the whole house, borrowing the tools from Herman Thimbling, a worker at his father's factory. Ed wired the home after school. He would get off the bus there, and one of the music business people would pick him up. This home was later the same home of his future wife's parents, George and Maggie Wade. After their deaths, Ed and Mary purchased the home and made it into a craft business, Sherfick Ceramics and Gifts.
Edward also hooked up the bell system at his local high school, Shoals High School. Ora Terry was his teacher and asked him to do it. He encouraged Ed to be an electrician before graduation.
Ed Sherfick was in the Air Force in the Korean War during the time that the Sherfick Music Factory burned. A friend from Terre Haute, John Hickman, was stationed in Wyoming with him. John had called his parents the day the factory burned, and they told him that they had heard about the factory burning on the Terre Haute radio stations. John told Ed. He wasn't able to return home until 8 months later in December on a 3-day pass for Christmas. He and John drove straight through from Wyoming to Indiana. Ed said that nothing had been done to the factory in those 8 months.
